Has anyone been able to use the ACVP link to do CEU's?
Over the past three weeks, I have tried on several times and had trouble. I also contacted Valarie Coil to try and get help. Anyone have an idea?

Centralized Monitor Room

I'm hoping that there are other hospitals that have Centralized monitor rooms who can help me. I have searched and searched for the standards for such rooms. I am trying to find standards or research in progress on:

1. What is the safest numbers of monitors one tech can monitor.

2. Standards on educational needs for Monitor technicians.

Any info you can share is greatly appreciated

Cardiovascular MR Imaging

I was trained in cardiopulmonary technology in the early 80's and have been working at Duke Hospital for 21 years for the Heart Center as a RCIS, CCPT. I was fortunate 6 years ago to move from the cardiac catheterization lab to a "new" imaging technique for heart disease: cardiovascular MRI (CMR). This is still a fairly new mode of imaging, much like echo in the early years. The techs I meet working in this arena are radiology technologists and some cardiovascular technologists. There is a small amount of education on CMR at the large cardiology conferences such as the TCT, ACC and AHA and at radiology conferences, primarily directed for physicians. I am also a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and attend an annual conference, but I haven't seen much from the cardiovascular technology side with ACVP. Will there be anything in the future?

Responsibilities in Cath Lab

I would like to know if there are publications that describe who is legally responsible for what in the cath lab in the state of OHIO?

I work in a small lab, one room, one physician, one RN. Are non RN's legally permitted to draw medications, (not inject), just draw into syringes and dilute and attach to manifold?

Can staff other than RT's pan and operate the xray equipment?

I know there is cross training but I need to know what is legal and what is not.

Cath Lab set up

What are everyone's thoughts on having an extra monitor in the room for the RN's access to visibility of the EKG and HD's? I have a small cath lab with new, state of the art HD system and wondered why the RN wants to have an extra monitor for her to look at. I thought that since the RN is virtually circulating around the room and not sitting that she/he could easily watch the main large monitor over the table. I am not getting it. I don't want to be creating a situation where the patient is not monitored, but do not see why the added expense. Can someone share? I have never seen more than the table's screen in the cath lab.

ACC/STS data managers

Both the ACC and STS recommend that we have clinically based data managers for the respective data bases. Does anyone have job descriptions for these positions? We have been trying to manage through our Quality Department but find there is way too much work to do on a PT basis.

Education program for Special Procedures Techs

I am looking for a study/testing/validation program to develop special procedures techs for a cardiac/vascular center. I have a program in place for staff to attain the RCIS credential, but need to developa program for RT(R)'s to become full service interventional radiology specialists. I am also deveolping the wage strucutre to match the cardiovascular tech structure. I have used the Wes Todd program for the RCIS, does anyone know of some thing similar for Radiology techs?

Im a cardiovascular student seeking an internship in the medical field. Im interested in a paid or unpaid internship in hospitals, EKG departments, cardiovascular clinics, laboratories, insurance companies, and physicians' offices. Im being trained as an EKG Techinician, Stress Test Technician, Phlebotomist, and Laboratory Assistant.

Would anyone know of a good place to start looking for an internship or how I should beging looking? Should I call up cardiologist officdes and just ask? Or is there another more succesful method?

Invasive vs Non-Invasive Echo/Vascular track recommendations

Hiee...I'm in the process of completing my prerequisites before attending school for one of three career tracks: invasive cardiovascular technology, non-invasive cardiovascular technology/echosonography and peripheral vascular technology. I will be asked to declare my track intention since there are only 5 students allowed for each discipline.

This will be a career change for me having been laid off from a career in telecommunications. I will be 55 next year so factors such as which career has the most job openings/demand starting in 2007 (when I finish classes) and the better pay are important.

Can I hear your experienced thoughts on these three career tracks as regards job openings/demand and pay scale?

I did manage to pull off a 100 average in my Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 prerequisite class this Fall Semester so the brain cells are still working. :-)

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!
